Week 1 Reflection
OKAY! So I'm in the technology class watching my new teacher whimsically introduce herself to us. She first reviewed the course outline to the class, then introduced the topic: "THE ROLE OF TECHNOLOGY AND MEDIA IN EDUCATION." After carefully explaining each term i.e. role, technology and media we went straight into the lesson.
Did you know that there are six (6) categories of media?

Yep!

Technology today is not the same as previous years. Locally, candles and oil lamps are replaced by bulbs and solar panels. Below is a link to a video which shows the difference in old technology and new technology. (NB: some new technology mentioned in the video is not so new anymore)
At the end of the class we were given an assignment to research the terms behaviorism, cognitivism, constructivism and social psychological.
Phew!

So class was not as challenging as I thought it would have been!
Demonstrating each category of media using technology was so much FUN!
So of course I did my research and found out that behaviourism is a learning theory based on the idea that behaviour can be controlled or modified based on antecedents and consequences of a behaviour.
Example: "You can watch TV as long as you're done your homework."

Cognitivism is a learning theory that focuses on "how information is received, organized, stored and retrieved by the mind."
Example: Starting lessons with a hook to create interest or activating a lesson with a review quiz
Examples: Using role play, debating, internship.

Lastly, social psychological is a learning theory that focuses on the social aspects of a classroom and its effects on the student (Richardson, 2013)
Example:
Week 1 was a blast!!! Can't wait to tell you about next week but until then....
